The Rotary District Assembly is a half-day training event hosted by our District. The event is scheduled for Saturday morning, June 5th from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Start your day with some coffee and a continental breakfast, and then participate in some excellent training to prepare you for specific leadership roles in our club. There are training sessions dedicated to a wide variety of jobs, including Club Secretary, Club Treasurer, Committee Chairs, Membership, the Rotary Foundation... and many more. This is also an EXCELLENT opportunity for a new Rotarian to learn a lot about Rotary in general, in a short period of time. For those who volunteer to attend the District Assembly, this activity will count as a make-up for your attendance AND the Denver Mile High Rotary Club will reimburse you for your registration fee.
On-line registration is now available for the District Training Assembly. http://www.rotary5450.org/events/Club-Ldr-Training/index.htm
If YOU cannot attend, it would be good to find someone on your committee (maybe a "new" Rotarian) to go to this training.
It's ONLY a half a day and includes a continental breakfast.
The club will reimburse you for the $25.00 registration fee.

June 5, 2010! WooHoo, almost here. I have listed the details of the District Assembly in this e-mail telling exactly the classes offered and the room numbers. As of today we have 45 people registered from the following clubs: Arvada, Aurora Gateway,Denver, Denver Mile High, Denver Southeast, Englewood, Littleton Sunrise, Longmont, Niwot, Northglenn/Thornton, Peak to Peak, Smoky Hill, Summit County and University Hills. You can register on line at the District 5450 web site -- just click on the link on the left side of the home page.
Please promote Rotary 101 to your new Rotarians, and to those who would like a refresher course. It is a wonderful program that will produce Rotarians that can come back and give a program to your club on the basics and history of Rotary. The feedback we get from this class is always positive and includes quotes like. "I wish I would have known this 5 years ago when I was President," or "Stacy makes this all so much fun -- I hardly knew I was learning so much about Rotary and being a Rotarian."
I would also suggest that the President Elects consider joining DGN Jim Halderman for one of his sessions on Powerful Presentation Skills. This is the first time we have offered this class and it will assist you so much in your year as President.
Please assign someone from your club to attend the Abuse/Harrassment and Youth Exchange class so your club will be aware of the Rotary International requirements of Rotarians or friends of Rotarians when it comes to at risk youth (and at risk adults).

The final opportunity to register online for the 2010 RI Convention in Montréal, Québec, Canada, is 31 May.
Don’t miss out on the entertainment, world-class speakers, and networking opportunities during the four-day event, from 20 to 23 June. Breakout sessions, idea exchanges, and the House of Friendship will provide the perfect chance to make connections with other Rotarians that could lead to life-changing service projects.
The entertainment will include award-winning tenor Russell Watson, who received acclaim for his majestic vocals. Watson will be performing during the closing plenary session, 23 June.
Also on tap is Celtic Thunder, the Irish singing group known for its eclectic combination of soloists and ensembles. It will be onstage during the opening plenary session, 20 June. In December, Billboard magazine named Celtic Thunder its Top World Album Artist.
Cirque du Soleil will be performing a program designed specifically for Rotary International during the closing plenary session. From a small band of street performers in 1984, Cirque du Soleil has grown into a major provider of high-quality entertainment, employing more than 1,200 artists. It has brought wonder and delight to almost 100 million spectators in 300 cities on five continents.
In addition, through a Host Organization Committee event 19 June, convention goers will have the opportunity to marvel at the remarkable talent of rising young circus artists by attending the graduation performance of the École nationale de cirque (National Circus School).
Keynote speakers at the convention will include Greg Mortenson, coauthor of the international bestseller Three Cups of Tea; Dolly Parton, international music star and philanthropist; Jo Luck, president and former CEO of Heifer International; and Bob Mazzuca, chief scout executive of the Boy Scouts of America, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Learn more.
During the second plenary session, 21 June, Father Marciano “Rocky” Evangelista, founder of the Tuloy Foundation and a member of the Rotary Club of Alabang, Metro Manila, Philippines, will talk about how his foundation has changed the lives of street children in his country. Then on 22 June, Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan will speak during the third plenary session about the prospects for peace in the 21st century.
All plenary sessions will be held in the Centre Bell.
In the Palais des congrès de Montréal, a short walk or métro ride away from the Centre Bell, breakout sessions and idea exchanges will offer Rotarians a chance to hear from clubs and districts about their projects. Breakout sessions will also provide Rotarian Action Groups, RI committees, and other Rotarians and Rotary leaders with an opportunity to explain new programs, get feedback, and answer questions. Idea exchanges, back this year, are designed to allow Rotarians to share ideas and learn about projects from their peers in an informal setting.
