Denver Mile High Calendar

April 21st – James R. Griesemer - Professor and Dean Emeritus of  the Daniels College of Business at DU - University of Denver's 2009 Immigration Panel's recommendations for immigration reform – RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM – The hot topic of immigration reform?  While the Federal government only now begins a serious look at this problem, Colorado is far ahead – thanks to the leadership of our speaker this Wednesday, April 21st.

He’s Dr. James R. Griesemer, D.U. Professor/Dean Emeritus, Director of the University of Denver’s Strategic Issues Program, and lauded Chair of its 2009 immigration Panel.  This distinguished group of community, corporate, agricultural, political and education leaders has come up with 25 specific recommendations for changes in policy and practice.  Their final report titled Architecture for Immigration Reform: Fitting the Pieces of Public Policy, is now being discussed throughout Colorado.  We’ll have a chance to add our opinions Wednesday morning!

With extensive executive experience in both the public sector and academic, Dr. Griesemer served as Dean of D.U.'s Daniels College of Business from 1994 to 2004.  During that decade the College increased its enrollment and endowment, constructed a new building and gained a national reputation for excellence.  He had previously been Chief Financial Officer at D.U. and helped lead its financial turnaround.

Prior to joining the University of Denver, our speaker on Wednesday had extensive experience in public administration, serving as city manager of several cities across the U.S. including Aurora, Colorado and in 1989 was named Outstanding Public Administrator in Colorado.  He's won national and regional awards for excellence in this field including the National Innovation Award in Public Finance.

Should be a particularly interesting meeting on Wednesday with plenty of back-and-forth discussion with our distinguished speaker!

April 28th - Christopher Price, an attorney at Murray Dahl Kuechenmeister & Renaud, will talk to the Club about Medical Marijuana Basics. His program is interesting and engaging.  Club members will learn some new things and have food for thought after his presentation.

April 24th – 9 Health Fair - Presentation of Our
Lady School, 660 Julian St., from 7-12.

April 30-May 2 - District Conference-The Hilton Hotel Fort Collins, Colorado

June 5thDistrict Assembly – 8:00am – 1:00pm

June 12 - 13th – Hole in One Shoot out -  Click Me to see the Flyer

Thanks to every DMHR member who participated in the discussion last Wednesday about the Club’s Foundation.  We collected some very thoughtful and pertinent comments, and Susan and I are in the process of collating the responses. If you weren’t able to participate but have something to add, please send me your thoughts as soon as possible.

We have tentatively scheduled the follow-up meeting on May 19th.  More on that later.

Again, thank you so much for your ideas and great participation.

The 9HealthFair is upon us. There are still a few things we really need help with

1)  We need people to set up for the fair on April 23rd from about 4:00 to around 6:30 p.m.

2)  We need food for the volunteers, maybe some bagels, fruit, cookies etc.

The Rotary District Assembly is a half-day training event hosted by our District.  The event is scheduled for Saturday morning, June 5th from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Start your day with some coffee and a continental breakfast, and then participate in some excellent training to prepare you for specific leadership roles in our club. There are training sessions dedicated to a wide variety of jobs, including Club Secretary, Club Treasurer, Committee Chairs, Membership, the Rotary Foundation... and many more. This is also an EXCELLENT opportunity for a new Rotarian to learn a lot about Rotary in general, in a short period of time. For those who volunteer to attend the District Assembly, this activity will count as a make-up for your attendance AND the Denver Mile High Rotary Club will reimburse you for your registration fee.
