Denver Mile High Calendar

March 31st  - Max Wycisk, President, Colorado Public Radio

Presentation Description: American Journalism At A Crossroads: The Future Is Now

American journalism is at a crossroads. We live in an era where we are seeing daily newspapers, long the bastion of local independent reporting and accountability, failing in Colorado and around the country. At the same time, broadcast newsrooms are shrinking as well. Fewer traditional journalists are reporting less news. Independent reporting that is so critical as a source of information, analysis, understanding, and particularly local community knowledge has been seriously diminished.

What role will Public Radio play in this changing landscape?

April 7th – TBA

April 14th - On April 14, Club members will have a chance to participate in Strategic Planning for the Foundation of Denver Mile High.  This will give you a chance to discuss and share ideas about:

--whether the Club should have a Foundation

--the purpose (mission) of the Foundation

--the integration between fundraising and the projects that the Club sponsors each year

--how much the Club should spend on projects each year.

Over the next three weeks we'll share background information to prepare you for the discussions.

This is an important part of the Club's operation.  I hope that you will be at the meeting and ready to share your thoughts about the Club's Foundation.

April 21st – TBA

* * * ANNOUNCEMENTS * * *

Attendance at the Club meeting was sparse but those who braved the weather were rewarded with a great presentation by Barbara O'Brien, Lt. Governor of Colorado.  She spoke about Colorado's application to share in the U.S. Department of Education's $4.35 billion in Race to the Top funds.  These funds will be awarded to the top tier states who have the brightest ideas to make U.S. students once more at the leading edge of knowledge and skills.  For more information, use the link below.

We didn't take formal attendance at the meeting, but I remember seeing the following Club members:

Diane, Bob Morgan, Susan Kirkpatrick, Robin, Rob Habegger, Dan, Don Shattuck, Vass, Betty, Pat Gorman Barry, Melanie, Tom, Joe Pahl, Chuck and Joanne Thompson.  Anyone else, please let Linda Sue know.

For the 9HealthFair we need to print or copy about 1000 flyers to enclose in the school lunch boxes and to hand out at church next Sunday. If you could copy about 250 flyers or so at your office, please contact Linda Sue ASAP (or if we can get 5 people to print 200 copies each). She will email you the flyer so you can run the copies and arrange to pick them up. Thank you in advance for your help! Hello Family and Friends!

My sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, is helping to raise money to support Northrise University in Zambia, Africa.  As the first privately recognized university in Zambia, Northrise is dedicated to "Empowering the people of Zambia, one student at a time!".

I know that the economy is not great right now, so do not feel obligated to donate.  We have been told that $5 will feed a student for a week, so every bit counts.  I'm meeting with President Moffat of Northrise today for lunch so I can learn more about this great cause.

The donation process is simple.  Follow this link for details:

Thanks in advance for the support.

The Rotary District Assembly is a half-day training event hosted by our District.  The event is scheduled for Saturday morning, June 5th from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Start your day with some coffee and a continental breakfast, and then participate in some excellent training to prepare you for specific leadership roles in our club. There are training sessions dedicated to a wide variety of jobs, including Club Secretary, Club Treasurer, Committee Chairs, Membership, the Rotary Foundation... and many more. This is also an EXCELLENT opportunity for a new Rotarian to learn a lot about Rotary in general, in a short period of time. For those who volunteer to attend the District Assembly, this activity will count as a make-up for your attendance AND the Denver Mile High Rotary Club will reimburse you for your registration fee.
