Presentation Description: American Journalism At A Crossroads: The Future Is Now

American journalism is at a crossroads. We live in an era where we are seeing daily newspapers, long the bastion of local independent reporting and accountability, failing in Colorado and around the country. At the same time, broadcast newsrooms are shrinking as well. Fewer traditional journalists are reporting less news. Independent reporting that is so critical as a source of information, analysis, understanding, and particularly local community knowledge has been seriously diminished.

What role will Public Radio play in this changing landscape?

Heart Filled Dinner

Friday night was the second annual Heartfilled dinner.  What a delightful experience.  Special thanks to Jodi Fitzpatrick for organizing the venue food and great ambience.  And kudos to Joe Hubbard for the great wine selection

What a wonderful combination of fun and funding the DMHR Foundation.

POLIO PLUS ALMOST THERE

Thanks you one and all for your generous giving.  Sixteen members added to the campaign last Wednesday including Heidi Resetarits, our Ambassadorial Scholar.

To date the Mile High Rotary Club has donated $5,500 to this worldwide campaign, just $300 shy of our club goal.  Between now and June I am certain we will bring in the balance.  It is with pride to be associated with such wonderful people who share their energy, talent and money for those who in need of help.

Trace the history of polio and Rotary’s role in the global eradication effort.

Trace the history of polio from 1580BC to present day in an interactive timeline. Learn more about Rotary’s contribution to the eradication effort – which has already spared an estimated 5 million children from a lifetime of paralysis.

Awards Update:

Geoff Noble has been working with Pat Gorman-Barry on an awards write up for the "Helping Hands" Award. This award recognizes the best club project targeting children at-risk from pre-school through high school. Pat has written up a narrative application documenting our work with the BrainWise curriculum that has been converted into a computer based Confidence-Based Learning (CBL) model in use at Colorado High School Charter. Last  Wednesday, after our Rotary breakfast, Geoff went with Pat and photographed the instructor and students.  NOW WE NEED SOME HELP. Is there a DMH Rotarian (or possibly a son or daughter of a Rotarian) who could help Pat convert these digital images into a collage, suitable for electronic submission along with our award application?  If you can help, please contact Pat at  pgbarry@brainwise-plc.org or by telephone at (303) 358-5553.  THANKS!
